The Southern NM Trail Alliance is listing a beginner friendly bikepacking overnighter in the Organ Mountains – Desert Peaks National Monument on Feb. 10-11, 2:30PM – 12:00PM. The following details are posted on the SNMTA website at http://snmta.org/event/beginner-bikepacking-overnighter/
The start is Tortugas Mountain (Sunset Parking on the west side, intersection of Dripping Springs Rd and Sonoma Ranch Blvd.) to the Sierra Vista Trail. A map of track is at https://ridewithgps.com/routes/26798199
“The ride is approximately 8.64 miles with just under 1,000 feet of climbing. It links the trails of Tortugas “A” Mountain to the beautiful single track of the Sierra Vista Trail via primitive and paved roads. Riding up Dripping Springs road is also an option.
Meet at Tortugas mountain at 2:30PM, departure at 3:00PM. Arrive early if you have any last minute gear checks or questions. Matt will be there at 2:00PM to address these issues. No water is available on the route so plan accordingly. Water is available at Dripping Springs/La Cueva Natural Area, but this is a bit off route. For questions before the ride or to borrow gear contact Matt (info below) or see Pablo at Outdoor Adventures (https://www.outdooradventures-lc.com/).
